GPS Systems

A new model GPS system is set to be introduced at the SEMA show in Las Vegas.  This time Nextar is set to unveil the Q4-MD, its latest GPS navigation system.  It features a host of MSN® Direct (www.msndirect.com) location based services free of charge for 12 months. The unit includes an easy-to-see 4.3″ touch-screen display, built-in speaker, and voice-guided, turn-by-turn prompts for maps covering all 50 states as well as Canada. The Q4-MD will be introduced to the market at the SEMA 2008 in Las Vegas.

With MSN Direct, the unit can stream content and information related to the current location.  This include traffic conditions, local and national weather report as well as gas price comparisons at stations near the current location.  Other content like news, and events could also be accessed by the unit.

There is an emphasis on content for the Q4-MD which the user cannot overlook.  The materials available at the driver’s fingertips give a lot of reason for travel and exploring the locales for landmarks, sites and attractions.  The weather information is comprehensive enough, providing local and national weather, current as well as three-day forecasts.  The gas comparisons is another practical information today’s drivers cannot do without.

Though the screen display size is mid-sized, the included content and features more than make up for any size insecurities.  The unit has a 4.3″ TFT touch-screen display which shows maps for the United States and Canada.  It also has a special automatic night mode which adjusts the screens light level for better viewing.  There’s also voice guided directions which are clearly audible with a built-in speaker.  The embedded text-to-speech software clearly pronounces road names in the language of choice (English, French or Spanish).  For traveling within the United States and Canada, there’s no reason for the driver not to understand the unit.  Not everyone is tri-lingual, and this is more so in a GPS system of this size.

The Q4-MD provides more than one and a half million points of interest which include hotels, shopping centers, gas stations and restaurants.  The digital map data is provided by Tele Atlas, a leading global provided of digital maps and dynamic content.  It can also store up to 300 addresses, has 2D and 3D map-viewing modes, a SD card slot for additional memory, as well as capability to play MP3 files and display JPEG images.  It is powered by a built-in rechargeable Lithium-ion battery.  The unit measures 4.5″ x 3.1″ x .08″ and weights approximately 2.3 pounds.  With the SD card slot, this unit also works as both a digital photo album and an MP3 player.  A combo which is not very common, but a bonus feature on the Q4-MD.

It has a SRP of $329.99 and comes with a one-year limited warranty.
